Avengers: Infinity War D23 Teaser Trailer Description & Possible Public Arrival
The D23 Expo is over but we're all still taking in the news from the weekend. Everything from Star Wars to Disney princesses was showcased, not to mention big Marvel news. One of the biggest pieces of interest to come out of the weekend was the surprise showing of teaser footage from Avengers: Infinity War. The directors told the audience they were going to be shown footage from the last 10 years of Marvel MCU movies as an appreciation of the work it took to get here. They did not tell them that brand new footage from the next Avengers film would be shown as well. Several news outlets were on-hand to witness the glorious revelation and they each did their best to describe what they saw.
"The trailer begins with a passed out and wounded Thor floating in space. Guardians of the Galaxy hit him as they are flying through space in the Milano. He’s stuck to the windshield and Rocket proposes using the windshield wipers to wake him up. Thor is brought into the Milano, wakes up, and says, “Who the hell are you guys?” There’s a cut to Loki holding the Tesseract. Shot of Spider-Man on a bus, arm hair stands up – confirming Spidey sense. Iron Man working with the Guardians. Thanos arrives to battle Avengers. Spider-Man shown wearing new suit from end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Cut to Peter with mask off saying, “I’m sorry,” to Stark. Thanos battling Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, and Iron Man. Shows Captain America in new (Nomad?) suit with a beard. Black Widow is now blonde. Thanos pulls pieces of the moon to Earth to toss at Avengers. Logo.
Outside of this description, there were also quick shots of Scarlet Witch in combat, Black Panther battling in Wakanda, massive destruction, and much more. All in all, there is an incredible amount of scenes shown, each presenting a case for why Infinity War will be so big. Marvel brought most of the film’s cast on stage to introduce this teaser, and with almost everyone being featured in the footage itself, this made for quite a special way to end the panel at D23."
Overall, the reception to the footage appears to be positive. Some even claim that the footage perfectly showcases the scale and action necessary to pull off something of this magnitude. That, in and of itself, is impressive. Production began at the beginning of the year and may have just recently finished in Atlanta. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are set to begin work on the Untitled Avengers 4 movie soon. I don't know how they did it, but for a movie on this scale, with this many actors and actresses and this many moving parts to turn around this quickly is unheard of. Then again, Marvel is a well oiled machine at this stage so if anyone can pull it off it's them. The only thing that concerns me is whether Thanos will buck the Marvel trend of terrible villains. Maybe terrible is too strong a word, so I'll go with half-baked. By all accounts the teaser appears to show a solid villain as well, so here's hoping.
Previously, Kevin Feige said that a trailer would land with Thor: Ragnarok which, itself, drops in November. However, what about this teaser footage? GMA spoke to Joe Russo after the first trailer at D23 was shown and asked him when they plan on releasing the trailer to the public. Joe says they are working on a cut to show the public and while he wouldn’t specify a specific time frame, it will be coming “soon.” There you have it folks. "Soon". Soon could be sometime in August/September, or maybe it's as soon as San Diego Comic-Con this weekend! We can only hope. If official word comes down the pipeline, we'll keep you posted.
