Marvel's First 'Phase 4' Film Confirmed, Plus Venom Not In MCU

There's been a bit of confusion over the last week about which Spider-Man characters are actually in the MCU and which aren't. Sony super producer Amy Pascal made the rounds with her now famous statement that Spider-Man: Homecoming (absolutely in the MCU) is set in the same universe as both the Venom and Silver & Black films. That puts all those characters squarely in the MCU along with Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Well, it looks like those pronounced gulps Kevin Feige took as she let loose the dogs of war in the interview were his silent disagreement. Speaking with JoBlo, Feige cleared up some of the confusion and re-confirmed that it was only Spider-Man who was a part of the MCU.

“Right now, Spidey is in the MCU and it’s just Spidey. Civil War, Homecoming, we’ve already shot a lot of Tom Holland’s scenes in the upcoming Avengers films, and we’re just starting to solidify our plans for Homecoming 2 – we won’t call it that, whatever it is – which is exciting because it’ll be the first MCU movie after untitled Avengers in 2019. It’ll be the way Civil War informed everything in Homecoming, those movies will launch him off into a very new cinematic universe at that point. Those five movies are what we’re focusing on.”

So that's official confirmation on two things and a little hope for the future. What do I mean? Well, now we know for certain that it's just Spider-Man that's in the MCU, but Feige also said "right now". Which means, if there's money to be made, anything can happen. Given the far-reaching, potentially universe-altering power that the Infinity Stones (inside the Infinity Gauntlet) will have, it's possible that our universe will be remade by the end of the untitled Avengers film in 2019, making way for all sorts of cross-overs and character replacements (think RDJ and Chris Evans at least). So that's one certainty and the hope for the future. What's the other certainty? Feige said that the first MCU movie after the untitled Avengers film will be the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. Now we know.

Also, did you catch that last bit? Kind of strengthens what I was just talking about, no?

"...those movies will launch him off into a very new cinematic universe at that point."

Get ready for a brand new day, true believers. Maybe.
