Black Panther: First Full-Length Trailer Plus Stills
I'm still in awe as I write this, because this trailer represents so much. If you've been living under a rock, you may not have known that the first full length trailer for Marvel's Black Panther was released yesterday. It's stunning. I received a message from a friend last night asking me if it was true there was only one white person in the film. The fact that she was shocked by that (there are two at least, but the point is the film is very "for us, by us") lets you know what the current landscape is as far as representation and mindshare. Representation matters. Always has. Here's the trailer in all it's glory:
So, first of all, wow. Right? Ryan Coogler and company went to great lengths to not only separate Wakanda and its culture from what we've seen so far in other Marvel movies, but to maintain and highlight the blackness, representation and inclusivity those of us who pay attention were hoping for. That "Wakandan Dap" will presumably make the rounds once the movie drops. Trust.
Two things of note here: Klaw's Sonic Disruptor technology and Kilmonger's doppelgänger Black Panther suit in what is one of the greatest suit reveals I've seen since the briefcase armor in Iron Man 2. To say that I'm excited would do my feelings no justice. I plan to rock out with my...Black Panther gear come February 2018. Check out the campaigns once they launch within the next couple months for some exclusive gear, or, if you can't wait, head on over to the site to get some gear right now, albeit at a higher price.
Black Panther will be released on February 16th, 2018 in the US.
